about

Recorded at friends Skylar and Reed Adler's studio on Sundays for the better part of a year, "Giant Fantasy Life" is named after a line from one of Johanna’s favorite Elliott Smith songs. The songs deal with the discrepancies between the physical world and that of the mind, and the complications that come with reconciling the two. “That’s what the mind is,” Johanna says, “a giant fantasy life.”

Track Name: Greek Into a God
From an airline bathroom in the sky
If that's me in the mirror there then who am I?
It looks just likes she's swimming

My seat is cold and by the door
It's right there beside the chair on the floor, and
It looks just like she's running

It's just like the science of some holy marriage
The sun goes down and it's dragged away by a horse and carriage
What you've got to believe or you disparage

The memory makes it hard to turn Greek into a God.

From far beneath the ocean waves
That's her again, she's witnessed another day
Oh, hot damn, that lady's flying

Instrumental

It's just like remembering the games she used to play
(And it was just the other day)
in the backyard every other holiday
(We used to be a different way)
Back then it wasn't lying
(Lying)

But the memory makes it hard to turn Greek into a God

I wish you'd stop your lying
But we might as well keep trying
It feels just like I'm flying
Track Name: Fault Lines (Mama, Look Around)
Fault Lines shifting overnight
Our city's dirty but the sidewalk shines
You're a floating mine, flawed by design
And you're stained with wine
But you'll come around it's just a matter of time

All night you keep on your light
Do anything to sustain your flight
You keep the delayed in your line of sight
And while it's your right
It leaves me with your battle to fight

Instrumental

Profound freedom is abound
And you would see it if you looked around
(Mama, look around)
We both know you can leave this town
But while you're counting down
I'll do my best to follow the sound

Help me find the fault lines that you fell through
(Mama, look around you)
Help me find the fault lines that you fell through
(Mama, look around you)
Help me find the fault lines that you fell through
(Mama, look around you)
Help me find the fault lines that you fell through
(Take a look around)
Track Name: Back Down to The End of The Day
I'm getting down to the end of the day
I'd tell you what that's like but I keep feeling different ways
So you keep the gold, I found sniffing down low
One hundred final calls based off of what you think I know

Maybe in the morning I'll regret letting you in
But there's no time like the night time to remember how to sin
That's why.
I don't need nobody here to let the show begin

And I just might go and leave you far too soon
I'll be just like the memory girl you'd eat me with a spoon
I'm not the one to say if you should follow through
But if I fall in love with you it's what I'm bound to try to do

To be honest falling under rarely happens anymore
All these comings and their exits I've got zero reasons for
So.
I don't need nobody coming here
I'll let the show begin

Let's Go.

(Instrumental)

So take my lead I don't think that it will break
But please don't try to follow it cause I'll make a mistake
After all, don't you remember how we met?
On the bridge above the freeway
We both had lost a bet

So go, Before I know

(Instrumental)
Track Name: Breaking Up With You
I wish I could tell you
How you make me feel inside
But I... When I am with you
I wish I were high, high, high

Because I'm no good at goodbyes
I've never been one to deny
And when... when I am with you
You make me feel high, high, high

So let's deny what we're doing
There's a heartache that's gotta be brewing

(Instrumental)

I think that's my cue
Between nothing I'd rather the few good smiles
Cause after awhile
They'll fade in the sky, high, high

It's not that my love's not growing
I would hate to leave you not knowing

I'm just worried that soon you might know me
Track Name: Baby
On the warmest day in winter
You were summoned from above
And you were sad and you were tired
And you’d used up all your love

That night you asked the same old question
Like so many nights before
And you called out to the stars above you
For the answer or the door

It’s been so long and its been so hard
To keep these shields over my heart
Cause they won’t protect me from the fact
That I can’t retrace my old steps back

Your television filled its screen with static
You came back from commercial break
And thats when the hired, tired T.V. actor
Broke the news that you’d been dying to fake

It’s been so long and its been so hard
To keep these shields over my heart
Cause they won’t protect me from the fact
That I can’t retrace my old steps back

Baby, tell me where you are going
Your eyes are glowing
But you’re not there
And this is far too real so lets start slowing
The way that you’re growing
Just don’t be scared
Cause you don’t have to hide anymore
Please don’t hide anymore

(Instrumental)

Baby, your eyes, they cannot see me
It’s cause they’re someone else’s eyes
I’m begging you, please, please, please
You don’t have to live under his scores
Cause you deserve so much more
It just isn’t fair
But don’t be scared
You know that I care
And you don’t have to hide anymore
Please don’t hide anymore
Track Name: White Limousine
On the birthday of a baby queen
A child dressed as Norma Gene
She hired a white limousine
So in the streets she could be seen

I remember trying to pretend
To laugh for fear that I might offend her
But that ain't no way to keep a friend
I had a feeling that it would end at a highway bend

If we keep the windows up everything is gonna be alright
And we'll do it all because Baby's feeling stupid tonight
And if we keep the windows up everybody's gonna feel alright
And if we do it long enough

She's feeling near with all her might
So we might as well just paint it white, oh.

Another birthday of a baby queen
Feels like so long since I seen her
She hired that white limousine
And I know that she wants to scream
But I've tried and I cannot pretend
I wish she knew that I missed my friend

But it's so long, long, long, long
White limousine
So long, long, long,
So long, long, long, long gone

(So long)
Well, so long
(So long)
Well, so long
